Process

From a UK log book to a better prepared Spanish file

A UK-registered car is not just another EU vehicle. Since Brexit, the file often combines UK export, Spanish customs, technical conformity, municipal tax and DGT registration.

01

Estimate your case

Start with origin, municipality, vehicle data, emissions and ownership context.

02

Start your file

If the estimate makes sense, pay the fixed Fastimmat service fee of €287 excluding IVA + 21% Spanish IVA (€347.27 including IVA) and open your client space.

03

Upload UK documents

V5C, proof of ownership, identity, NIE, COC, customs records and technical papers.

04

Fastimmat checks

Data is compared so gaps in dates, VIN, value, emissions or ownership are easier to see.

05

Prepare next steps

The file is organised for the relevant technical, customs and administrative stages.

06

Track progress

The dashboard keeps the file readable instead of scattered across emails.

Documents

The V5C matters, but it is not the whole Spanish file

For a UK car, the file often needs a clear chain between UK registration, ownership, export, import, technical conformity and Spanish residence or municipality.

Example scenario

A used UK car already in Spain needs a staged reading

Imagine a used right-hand drive car with a V5C, a UK purchase invoice, no transfer of residence relief assumed and a Spanish municipality already chosen. A cautious file review would not jump straight to a single total.

  • First check the UK export and V5C trail.
  • Then confirm customs, DUA and import VAT position.
  • Then review CO2, first registration date, IEDMT and municipal IVTM.
  • Finally, check ITV, COC, ficha reducida and any right-hand drive technical points.

Taxes and fees

Do not mix import VAT, IEDMT and municipal IVTM

A UK car may involve import VAT or customs duty, then Spanish first registration tax, DGT fees, municipal IVTM, ITV or ficha tecnica costs. These remain separate from the fixed Fastimmat service fee.

Understand UK to Spain tax families

Import stage

Customs duty, DUA and import VAT depend on the route, dates, residence evidence and documents.

Registration stage

IEDMT, IVTM, DGT fee and ITV depend on Spanish requirements, vehicle data and municipality.

Fastimmat support

The fixed service fee is €287 excluding IVA + 21% Spanish IVA, i.e. €347.27 including IVA. No further standard Fastimmat service fee is added.

UK-specific issues

Brexit and right-hand drive make the UK route distinct

The UK pages are written for British owners and expats, not as a generic translation of the French or Spanish guides.

After Brexit

UK vehicles are commonly analysed as non-EU imports before Spanish registration, with customs evidence to keep.

Right-hand drive

Headlights, speedometer, rear fog light, emissions or homologation evidence may need review.

Documents

V5C, invoice, customs records, COC and Spanish residence context must tell a consistent story.

Careful about limits

The aim is to make the file clearer before administrative and technical review, not to promise an official result.

FAQ

Questions before you start

Can I register a UK car in Spain after Brexit?

Often yes, but the route usually needs non-EU import analysis before Spanish registration.

Do I need the V5C?

The V5C/log book is a key UK document, but Spanish registration may also require ownership, customs, technical and tax documents.

Will I pay import VAT?

Import VAT may apply in many non-EU import cases, but reliefs and residence situations must be checked against real documents.

Is ITV the same as MOT?

No. MOT is a UK context. ITV is the Spanish technical inspection and may be required for the Spanish file.

Can a right-hand drive car pass ITV in Spain?

Some can, but technical items such as lights, speedometer, rear fog light and conformity evidence need careful review.
